About Science Museum Oklahoma

Science Museum Oklahoma History

We enrich people’s lives by revealing the wonder and relevance of science.

A lot has happened since the museum was founded way back in 1958. The museum itself has evolved, the world’s understanding of science has grown in leaps and bounds, even our name has changed. The following is a glimpse of our past, as well as a short biography about our founder, John Elson Kirkpatrick.

The Science Museum Oklahoma-based Oklahoma Museum Network, funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, is a statewide collaboration of partner museums working together to provide hands-on discovery learning and science resources to families, students, and educators across the state.

Each partner museum in the Oklahoma Museum Network features science exhibits that rotate twice per year, providing unique learning opportunities and new experiences. OMN also provides the very best in teacher inquiry professional development, allowing educators to increase classroom effectiveness across the curriculum.

In addition to activities and workshops, OMN also offers the Science Matters Mobile Museum, an immersive exhibit on wheels that engages students in crazy, captivating science adventures.
